Scholarships Offered by the US Air Force

Did you know that the US Air Force provided scholarships to meritorious students? They offer a few different kinds of scholarships in USA for different levels of education. Both high school students and college students can benefit from these scholarships. You only need to ensure that you are studying in an institution which has a tie-up with the Air Force ROTC.

Apart from these, there is another US Air Force Scholarship that is given out. A minimum of 10 of these scholarships are awarded to students every year. You have to be a student either in high school or in college, and need to have an outstanding academic potential. The authorities will be checking your grades to see if you are eligible. You can only receive the scholarship if you are dependent children of retired or on-duty Airmen and Guardians. You will be given $5000.

All the other scholarships given out by the US Air Force are under an educational program called Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC). The men and women enlisted under this program receive military training while completing their high school or college degrees. The duration of the program is three to four years.

High School Scholarship

Your full tuition fees will be paid. The transportation expenditure from your home to your institution will also be re-imbursed. You will also be receiving a stipend for your monthly expenditures and also to buy your annual study material.

The monthly stipend depends on which year of school you are in-

  • For Freshmen - $300

  • For Sophomores - $350

  • For Juniors - $450

  • For Seniors -$500

For books you will be receiving $900 a year.

College Student Scholarship

There are two kinds of Scholarships from which you will be given one.

In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP)

There are two separate options under this kind. You can opt for Type 1 only if you are a cadet who has taken up a technical major. The full tuition fees will be covered, whether you are studying in a public or private institution.

Type 2 scholarships are awarded only to select candidates. You will be receiving $18,000 stipend annually for tuition fees of the institution you are studying in. A monthly stipend will be provided to you for your day-to-day expenses and you will also receive an annual stipend to buy all your study material.

Enlisted Airmen Scholarship

Airmen Scholarship & Commissioning Program (ASCP)

This is your chance to become an officer while earning your bachelor's degree. The program offers scholarships of two to four years, which covers your tuition fees entirely. On top of that, you'll also get a sum of money annually for textbooks and a monthly stipend to help with living expenses. Just remember that this does not cover you residential costs.

Scholarships for Outstanding Airmen and Guardians to ROTC (SOAR)

This program allocates scholarships to different Air Force units. The head of those units have to pick their top performers, the ones who have shown great potential. If you get to be chosen by the selection board, you will receive a scholarship to college approved by the Air Force ROTC program.

You need to remember that while you avail this scholarship you will not be actively taking part in any US Air Force duties. You will be shifted to the Reserved Forces until you complete your education.

To Wrap It Up,

You do not need to give up on your dreams of working in the US Air Force in order to complete your education or the other way round. You can do both at the same time. Prepare yourself to be a part of the US military, while also studying the subject of your choice.
